Description

For those looking for an affordable gaming solution under $1000, Acer’s Nitro 5 is a good option. A gaming laptop that gives you a wide range of options at a reasonable price is the best laptop for budget-minded gamers.

Design and Display

Acer Nitro 5 features an eye-catching red-and-black theme and design that mimics Optimus Prime’s robotic build. There is a subtle, glossy Acer logo on the lid’s onyx coating. There are two textures on the lid: a black center that is easy to mark by your fingers and a hexagonal pattern on either side On the display and the deck, a red hinge with the word “Nitro” is visible. Despite its plastic chassis, the Nitro 5 looks great. There is some flex in the lid, and it is not very sturdy.

The palm rest is less cheaply made than the lid but feels solid. With this budget gaming laptop, you’ll have to compromise on build quality. With its 15.6-inch display, Acer’s Nitro looked very sharp in comparison to its competitors. It delivers a satisfying experience visually. Compared to an average budget gaming laptop (271 nits), this Acer laptop’s display emits only 245 nits of brightness.

keyboard and touchpad

PC gaming’s large keys (W, A, S, D, arrow keys) are highlighted with thick red lines to make them easier to find on the keyboard. In addition to the rest of the keys, a dedicated “N” key launches the NitroSense app for fan control as soon as it is pressed. Unfortunately, Nitro 5 doesn’t offer customizable RGB-key illumination, so you’re stuck with the red backlight. If you’re not a fan of red keys, you’ll be disappointed.

CONFORTABLE KEYBOARD WITH RED BACKLIT EFFECTS

Especially for FPS, RPG, and action games, this laptop’s touchpad can be a major issue, as it is on most gaming laptops. Despite the quality of the trackpad on the Nitro 5, it is in such bad condition that it cannot even stand up to routine computing tasks. In summary, if you require perfect clicks, then you should get an external mouse, and you will be fine.

Performance

The laptop is powered by the 10th generation Intel Core i5-10300H processor, which runs on a quad-core CPU with a base clock speed of 2.50 GHz. Thanks to Intel Boost technology, the clock speed can be expended up to 4.50 GHz. The provided chipset is very well capable of handling any kind of high-end task, including intensive gameplay. As you are already aware, for extended gameplay, we need a powerful graphics card and this laptop adopts the latest RTX 3050 GPU.

SMOOTH GAMING OPERATIONS

The included graphics card delivers 4GB DRR6 VRAM, which is just fine for normal gaming stuff. However, if you are a professional gamer, you might feel disappointed as it doesn’t handle continuous gameplay that well. But given the price range of $1000, what you are getting is more than enough. Apart from that, it performs very well in day-to-day tasks making it an allrounder machine. You can additionally finish productivity tasks very smoothly, such as 3D modeling, 4K video editing, photo editing, and much more.

Battery Life

For a gaming laptop, battery life is always a major concern, and nothing exception with this device. From a battery perspective, this machine is a mixed bag, considering that they run intensive processes to keep even the screen and other components operational. However, the company claims to deliver 9 hours of battery life in mixed usage, which is somehow not completely true.

NOT SO IMPRESSIVE BATTERY LIFE

We don’t know what is the company’s criteria for mapping the battery life, but you can expect 5-6 hours of battery life in normal usages, like web browsing, video playback, and running other casual apps. But while playing heavy games, it becomes overheated, which significantly impacts battery life. So, you should expect reduced battery life while running games, barely lasting 2-3 hours.

I/O Ports

There is a Kensington lock slot on the left side of the monitor, along with an RJ45 Ethernet port, an HDMI 2.0 port, a USB Type-C port, and two USB Type-A ports. Toward the right end of the device is a headset jack as well as another USB Type-A port.
