Acer Predator Helios 300 is a powerful gaming laptop with the latest hardware and other suitable gaming options. The “Helios” series is itself a synonym for gaming, and we have already seen a bunch of successful gaming laptops from Acer. There is no expectation with the latest addition. It has everything one would expect in a gaming laptop, whether it is a solid processor, build quality, or graphics card. Here is our detailed analysis of the laptop:
The Acer Predator Helios 300 comes with a 15.6-inch display at the front portion. The resolution offered by this panel is the Full 1920 x 1080 pixels. Being a full HD IPS panel, it offers good viewing angles by producing sharp visuals. However, color accuracy is not so great, but it can manage all the basic tasks efficiently. One of the major highlights of this display is the 144Hz refresh rate. As we already know, refresh rate is an important aspect of a gaming laptop, where it clearly takes the lead. Overall, the display fulfills all the demands we can expect from a gaming laptop. But if you are a professional content creator, you should avoid this laptop due to average color calibration.
Processor & Graphics card
The Control Processing Unit, commonly know as processor or Chipset, plays a crucial role in handling the performance. Therefore, it becomes necessary to have decent processing power for a gaming laptop. Thanks to the 10th generation Intel Core i7-10750H, the device performs extremely well in odd conditions. The provided chipset is powered by the six cores GPU along with 12 threads, making it a suitable piece for multi-threaded tasks, such as gaming and heavy multitasking. In terms of clock speed, it delivers a base clock speed of 2.6GHz, which can go as high as 5.0GHz using Intel’s Turbo Boost technology. Altogether, this is a potent chipset, more than enough to handle almost all the games available on this planet.
Powerful processor meets with a solid graphics card
Besides, having a compelling GPU is equally important, just like the processor. Indeed, it is one of the key factors which helps to decide that how a laptop will performing during heavy gameplay. So, here, Acer Predator Helio 300 accommodates the latest RTX 30 series 3060 graphics card. Undoubtedly, GPU brings a solid structure with highly optimized 2nd generation RT cores and 3rd generation Tensor cores. The added support for DLSS helps to control graphics more efficiently with the help of AI machine learning. Further, Ray Tracing is there for realistic-looking graphics. More importantly, RTX 3060 graphics card packs a dedicated memory of 6GB GDDR6 VRAM to reduce the reliance on traditional memory. In conclusion, this is a very powerful combo of CPU and GPU to achieve an immersive gaming experience.
Storage & RAM
The laptop packs 16GB DDR4 RAM at 2933MHz, and it is a dual-channel (8GB+8GB) memory to divide the power into multiple parts. A dual-channel memory solution is always better than a single stick to increase overall efficiency. In case if you need more RAM, it is upgradable up to 64GB. So, you don’t need to worry about it due to easy after-sale customizations. The laptop doesn’t compromise the memory section, and it is a readymade device to offer high-performance out-of-the-box.
As far as storage is concerned, there is pre-supplied 512GB SSD storage. It is also upgradable via an additional m.2 slots. Large storage is the beneficiary of storing large gaming files and other stuff. Collectively, the memory department is very well managed, and you don’t need to worry about that. There is lots of storage space available, which can be further expanded by adding some additional money.
Connectivity & More
The connectivity department seems okay with all the necessary ports and connectivity features such as Bluetooth, WiFi, etc. There are 2x USB 3.2 Gen 1 Type-A Ports, 1x USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type-A Ports, 1x USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type-C Port, and an HDMI port. But, unfortunately, it doesn’t support a much-demanding thunderbolt port. However, this is not a deal-breaker but definitely a weak point in the connectivity section.
Other notable features are a four-zone RGB backlit keyboard, WiFi 6, unrestricted power supply unit, durable body, and well-managed thermals. We didn’t notice any overheating issue, but of course, it tends to heat up while continues gameplay; that is an obvious thing for any gaming laptop. Considering the battery life, it is not impressive at all. It barely lasts 2-3 hours while gaming and nearly 4-5 hours in normal usage. Overall, it fulfills the core purpose of gaming and a considerable choice if your budget is around $1500.
