Acer has introduced its latest Predator Helios 300 2021 edition. Looking at its legacy forced us to give a quick review as early as possible. So, we are here just after its first sale on Amazon. The laptop is now openly available for sale, and netizens are curious to see its quick specifications analysis. Without any further delay, let’s get started!
Display & Design
Starting with the display, the laptop features a glorious 15.6-inch Full HD display with nearly identical color calibration to its predecessor. As we know, the last generation Helio 300 was announced with nearly 100% sRGB coverage.. So, it carries a highly color-accurate panel at the front. The more important thing for a gaming laptop is refresh rate & response time. That is why the laptop begs 144Hz refresh and a minimal 3ms responsive time, making it a quick responding panel. Overall, the display quality is up to the mark what a gaming enthusiast is looking for.
In terms of design, there is not much improvement. It looks almost identical to its predecessor. The body is made of a plastic material, which seems very durable considering Acer’s track record and legacy of the “Helios” series. There are all the necessary ports available on this machine. Starting from the right, there is a USB 3.2 Type-C port with Thunderbolt 4 & DisplayPort. However, there is a separated mini DisplayPort to attach additional monitors to this machine.
Apart from that, it adds a USB 3.2 Type-A port with air grills. There are two more USB 3.2 Type-A ports on the left side, an Ethernet RJ45 port, and a headphone/microphone combo. The DC-in power adaptor is available at the rear, making it more convenient while playing gaming. Overall, there is no compromise made in terms of USB ports, but it definitely lacks the Micro SD card reader. Concluding the design, there is nothing exceptional, just follows the tradition. But pretty much suitable for a gaming laptop.
The performance becomes crucial for a gaming laptop. So, powerful hardware is mandatory to get smooth gameplay. To fulfill the requirements, the laptop is backed by the latest 11th generation Intel Core i7-11800H processor. The provided chipset arrives with an octa-core CPU and a base clock speed of 2.3GHz, going as high as 4.6GHz while running the demanding taks. Definitely, it is a mighty processor and capable of handling any kind of high-end game. From a processing perspective, this chipset doesn’t disappoint by any means.
Apart from a powerful processor, a powerful graphics card is also needed to avoid any potential bottleneck. So, the laptop arrives with a dedicated RTX 3060 GPU with 6GB GDDR6 VRAM. This graphics card belongs to the latest RTX 30 series to take the latest advancements made by the industry leader. It pretty much matches the performance of a powerful CPU so that the end-user will get the optimal gaming experience. Overall, this is a solid performer and performs flawlessly while playing heavy games.
Battery Life & More
Most gaming laptops disappoint in the battery section, and there is no exception with this laptop. The laptop carries a small 4-cell 58Whrs battery, which barely lasts 3-4 hours during extensive usage. So, this laptop doesn’t impress in the battery section. There are battery options available in the market with a larger 90Whrs battery. So, it becomes a pretty ordinary option from a battery perspective.
Apart from that, there are some notable features this laptop is delivering, such as a 4-zone backlit keyboard. The laptop arrives with a multi-color RGB lighting keyboard to enhance the gaming experience. It also has a dedicated turbo mode to increase the overall performance by enabling turbo speed. So, the boosted mode is very convenient to enable. Overall, this is a compelling gaming laptop available at a very reasonable price.
