A combination of performance and power, the Dell XPS 13 7390 is among the top laptops for students due to its thin, lightweight design and performance. Furthermore, this laptop is an excellent thing in a small package as it has a large touchscreen, large storage, and long battery life.
Design and display
Dell continues to use its winning design formula with the slender machined aluminum chassis of the XPS 13. Although there’s no denying that the XPS’ appearance is both professional and stylish in equal measure, nothing beats what Dell calls its classic platinum-silver and dark grey finishes. The overall laptop dimension is 11.7 x 8.2 x 0.5 inches. As a result, it is one of the most lightweight laptops weighing only 2.7 pounds.
The screen resolution is 1920 x 1080 Pixels, and the display size is 13.3 inches. Comet Lake-U features the same AU Optronics IPS panel as Dell’s XPS 13 9380 series. As a result, the innate characteristics of these two devices are almost the same, such as color coverage, response times, and contrast ratios. Although the amount of backlight bleeding has increased slightly, it is still noticeable. In addition, viewing a video with black borders makes the bleeding from the corners more noticeable.
It can run for a day on a single charge thanks to the Dell XPS 13’s 52WHr battery. With the lithium-ion battery, you can play games on the go, watch movies on the go, or work on a project while traveling. It also works excellent as a note-taker or for relaxing in between classes.
Likewise, the quad-core Comet Lake-U adds four cores for a total of 8 threads under the 15 W to 25 W power envelope as the dual-core Kaby Lake-R. Interestingly enough, Intel managed to drive the single-core Turbo Boost frequency of 4.2GHz. It has a 256 GB SSD that makes its performance much more powerful and responsive. The 1.6 GHz core_i5 makes the work faster.
Keyboard and Touchpad
Despite its low price, the XPS 13’s backlit keyboard is quite enjoyable to use. With their rubber domes, chiclet-style keys offer a comfortable typing experience thanks to their springy and firm feel. It also comes with the same flawless glass-coated touchpad.
However, the PgUp and PgDn keys are positioned strangely, which leads to a few minor complaints. First, as a result of having the arrow keys above the left and right half-height keys, there is a higher chance of people mistyping them.
On the left-hand side of the XPS 13, you will find two USB-C ports with Thunderbolt 3 support, while on the right-hand side, you will find a USB 3.1 Gen 2 (Type-C) port, in between the 3.5mm jack and the microSD card slot.
