The Gigabyte G5 is the new entry in town, which promises to be the all-rounder to deliver very good gaming and content creation machine at an affordable price range. Given its price, this attracts most people with a decent set of specifications. Thus, we have decided to give a closer look at what it offers inside. Without any further ado, let’s get started!
Display & Build Quality
The Gigabyte G5 arrives with a standard 15.6-inch Full HD display at 1920 x 1080p resolution and 144Hz refresh rate. Another key highlight of this panel is its color accuracy. The display supports nearly 100% sRGB coverage and 72% NTSC by making it a highly color-accurate display. Therefore, it can be a suitable option for demanding productivity tasks such as video editing, photo editing, AutoCAD, Photoshop, etc. Overall, it is a high-quality panel, which produces very good viewing angles & sharp visuals.
As far as build quality is concerned, the laptop is made of plastic material, which seems durable. At first glance, it resembles the Acer Predator series, which is widely popular for its solid construction. However, we can’t claim the same reliability level, but it is definitely not bad either. The display bezels are very narrow, and a backlit keyboard is present at the front. Moreover, there is enough space for the keypad to enhance the overall surfing experience. Altogether, there is no major flow in terms of build quality, and the plastic material is pretty much normal for a gaming laptop to avoid excessive heat.
The laptop is powered by the latest 11th generation Intel Core i5-11400H processor. However, it is not as powerful as the i7 is but comes with decent power to handle heavy tasks. The chipset adopts a six cores CPU with a base clock speed of 2.7GHz and goes up to 4.5GHz. Further, it is built on highly power-efficient 10nm SuperFin technology to improve power efficiency. The laptop is loaded with Nvidia RTX 3050 graphics card with a dedicated 4GB GDDR6 VRAM in terms of GPU. This combination of CPU & GPU promises to offer excellent performance, whether gaming or other productivity tasks.
When we talk about memory, it has built-in 16GB DDR4 RAM, which can be upgraded up to 64GB. That is a really awesome thing for a gaming laptop because certain tasks may demand more memory. Apart from that, it packs 512GB SSD storage to store important documents and large gaming files. The good thing is that there is an additional SSD slot available in case if you want to add more storage. Overall, there is no compromise made in terms of RAM & storage.
Connectivity & Battery Life
All the essential options are available in terms of connectivity, such as WiFi 6 and Bluetooth 5.2. There is a decent set of connectivity options. Starting from the right side, there is a microSD card reader, a USB 3.2 Gen2 Type-A port, and a USB 3.2 Gen2 Type-C port. The left-hand side accommodates another 3.2 Gen1 USB Type-A, a USB 2.0 Type-A port, and a headphone/microphone combo. The rest of the ports are shifted at the rear, including the RJ45 Ethernet port, DisplayPort, HDMI, and DC-in for charging. Overall, there are more than enough Ports without missing any major ones.
Regarding the battery life, this laptop comes with a nearly 49Whrs rated battery, which seems to be on the smaller side. That is the reason this laptop barely lasts approx. 4 hours in a single change. This is the main disadvantage of this machine, regardless of the lesser-known brand.
