HP’s Pavilion series has a wide variety of laptops and PCs, and this series is mostly known for providing high value for the price you pay. And in that Pavilion series, a budget gaming laptop called the HP Pavilion 16-10030nr is one of the best examples of what the HP Pavilion series is all about.
Design and Display
The HP Pavilion 16 has been build with complete polycarbonate material. The looks of the laptop are quite attractive and complement the gaming laptop image of the machine. The laptop has green accent colors in its look, which imparts a pretty futuristic look to it. The polycarbonate material of the laptop may sound cheap to you, but it feels quite rigid and well-built compared to other polycarbonate laptops.
Coming to the laptop’s display, there is a big 16.1-inches IPS display panel on the laptop. This display packs a resolution of 1920×1080 pixels and touches a peak brightness of 250 nits which is pretty decent for a gaming laptop of this price range. It is also decently color accurate and covers 72% of the NTSC color gamut along with a 60Hz refresh rate.
Coming to the core performance of the laptop, there is a beefy 10th gen Intel Core i7-10750H Processor fixed in the motherboard. It is a 6-core processor housing 12 threads and works at a base clock speed of 2.6GHz. This clock speed can be boosted up to 5.0GHz for further performance improvement.
As for hardcore gaming, there is a need for a high-end GPU. And the HP Pavilion 16 comes with the NVIDIA GTX 1660Ti Max-Q GPU. The Max-Q versions of the GPUs are known for being power efficient with minimal compromise in performance. This GPU adds a total of 6GB of GDDR6 video memory to its specifications.
Talking about the RAM capacity and storage provided by the laptop, there is 16GB DDR4 RAM on the motherboard that works at 2933MHz of frequency. This has been coupled with a 512GB of PCIe NVMe m.2 SSD storage. Both RAM and storage options are upgradable as there is one extra empty slot for each.
Keyboard and Touchpad
Like most big gaming laptops, the HP Pavilion 16 also comes with a full-size chiclet keyboard housing a num pad. It is a backlit keyboard with complete green, which complements the overall green accent color of the laptop. The keyboard feels pretty nice to type on due to a short key traveling and clear actuation points.
The laptop’s trackpad measures 1.5cm by 7.5cm, which is a decent size and feels pretty smooth to glide the fingertips on. There is a pretty good utilization of the space below the keyboard, and the left/right-click buttons are embedded within the trackpad and are not added separately.
The HP Pavilion 16 comes with a 3-cell lithium-ion battery pack that can hold a juice of 52.5Wh. This is a pretty decent amount of battery capacity; however, considering it to be a gaming laptop, it may deliver a comparatively less battery backup. Still, one can expect a battery backup of around 3-4 hours easily in mixed usage. Also, users are advised to use the laptop for gaming only while the AC adapter is plugged in because the laptops reduce CPU and GPU usage on battery power.
Ports & Connectivity
Like most laptops, the HP Pavilion 16 fulfills all the basic posts’ requirements. It comes with three USB ports, out of which one is a normal USB-c port, and two are USB- ports. There is one HDMI port, a Gigabit Ethernet port, a 3.5mm audio jack, and a full-size SD card reader. And for wireless connectivity, there are a Wi-Fi 5 (2×2) WLAN adapter and Bluetooth 5.0.
