Description

Lenovo is giving tough competition to many big players in the market. In fact, Lenovo in itself is a big player in the market. And its Ideapad series of laptops is one of the most successful and most widely considered ones. In this series, there is a laptop called the Lenovo Ideapad 5. Although this laptop has a new and refreshed 11th gen Intel processor-powered entry by the name Ideapad 5 82FG0002U, the previous-gen Ideapad 5 81YK00CGUS can still be considered a nice package of performance at a reasonable price.

Design and Display

The Ideapad 5 comes with a complete polycarbonate build, and if you’re a person who uses its laptop in such a way that it can get scratched, the plastic build is pretty resistant to scratches. Also, Lenovo has provides a matte finish in the plastic build making the laptop look premium. The laptop is also pretty compact as it measures only 9.2 inches by 0.78 inches by 14 inches in dimensions.

Coming to the laptop display, there is a 15.6-inches matte display that meats it can cut off the harsh light reflection. The panel used in the display is IPS and goes up to 300nits in top brightness levels. Along with all this, the laptop’s display is also a touch screen with support for 10-point multi-touch.

Performance

The laptop is housing a fairly powerful 10th gen Intel Core i5-1035G7 processor. It is an Intel Ice Lake processor that has 4 cores and 8 processing threads. The processor works at a base clock speed of 1.2GHz and goes up to 3.7GHz in boosted turbo mode. The processor is pretty powerful and can handle all your moderate to heavy tasks with ease.

Coming to the GPU section of the laptop, there is no dedicated GPU inside the laptop. Instead, the laptop relies on integrated Intel graphics. This particular laptop comes with an Integrated intel UHD Graphics G1 GPU. This GPU is obviously not enough for high-end gaming but can handle normal daily life tasks without any problem.

The memory and storage option that is being provided by this laptop is also pretty impressive. The laptop comes packed with 16GB of DDR4 RAM, is capable of touching 3200MHz of frequency, and is pretty fast. As for storage, the laptop doesn’t disappoint again. There is a 512GB of SSD storage fixed inside the laptop chassis.

Keyboard and Touchpad

Talking about the keyboard of the laptop the Lenovo has not made a compromise here as well. The Ideapad 5 comes with a full-size num pad included keyboard along with properly bright white backlit. The keyboard keys are considerably large in size and provide a very nice typing experience due to decent key travel and feedback.

Coming to the laptop’s trackpad, it has a decently large size with a smooth and comfortable surface. It uses the Windows precision drivers and works pretty well when it comes to gesture support.

Battery Backup

The Ideapad 5 has been packed with a 3-cell lithium-ion battery pack rated to hold 57Wh worth of backup juice. Looking at the hardware specs and battery capacity, one can easily expect the laptop to withstand around 6-7 hours in mixed-use scenarios. The laptop also charges very fast with the provided 65W AC adapter.

Ports & Connectivity

The connectivity opportunities in the Lenovo Ideapad 5 are pretty satisfactory. The laptop body comes with two USB 3.2 Gen 1 Type-A ports, one USB 3.2 Gen 1 Type-C port, an HDMI 1.4b port, an SD card reader, and a 3.5mm audio jack. And for wireless connectivity, the laptop comes with Wi-Fi 5 and Bluetooth 5, which is pretty nice.

8.5Expert Score
If you are looking for a laptop for high-end productivity tasks, then the Lenovo Ideapad 5 is a really nice option. The laptop can also be a good option for looking for a nice and large touchscreen. Talking about the rest of the things, I have not seen any particular flaw to point out. The only thing is that the laptop can be slightly cheaper, but it still holds a nice value-to-money ratio.
