|Price history for Microsoft Surface Laptop 4 13.5” Touch-Screen – Intel Core i5 - 8GB - 512GB Solid State Drive (Latest Model) - Matte Black|
The Surface Laptop 4 stands out despite a wide range of Windows 10 laptops, including high-end, design-focused models. It is back with faster performance and a broader chip selection compared to the Surface Laptop’s third generation. In addition, the 13.5-inch screen and aluminum lid make it look and feel just as sleek and elegant as the screen itself.
Design and Display
In addition to being elegant as the MacBook Air, the Surface Laptop 4 offers unique color choices that extend its appeal. While the deck is covered with soft-touch Alcantara fabric, the top panel and frame are made from aluminum. In addition, the 1.35-inch screen has thicker bezels than many rival models.
A beveled edge on the rear is one of the appealing angles of the Laptop 4’s sleek, low-profile design. In addition to being thin and lightweight, Surface Laptop 4 is also 0.6 inches thick and weighs 2.8 pounds. The Surface Laptop 4 features a 13.5-inch, 2256 x 1504 pixel IPS touchscreen display in terms of picture quality. Although it isn’t a 2-in-1, it does come with a touchscreen. Despite its low brightness rating, it wasn’t far behind the competition.
It features a CPU with an Intel Core i5-1135G7 and 8GB of LPDDR4X RAM, making it one of the fastest notebooks on the market. On Geekbench 5.4, the Surface Laptop scored 4,829 points, smaller than those of the XPS 13. The Surface Laptop 4’s 512GB M.2 NVMe PCIe SSD is faster than any other storage drive we’ve tested before reviewing this laptop. Despite that, the program copied 25GB of multimedia files at a rate of 562.7 megabytes per second.
Keyboard and Touchpad
My fingers typed effortlessly through the springy actuation of the keys, and key travel exceeded what I expected for a laptop this thin. I usually don’t like keyboard flexes, but I found that this one helped keep my hand motions under control while typing. In addition, most hands can easily grip the keys themselves. As a result, a laptop’s footprint is minimized without sacrificing any keys.
The touchpad of this laptop also works well. With its large size, silky smoothness, and responsiveness to Windows 10 gestures like three-finger swipes for switching windows or pinch zoom, the 4.5 x 3-inch screen is a pleasure to use. Even the left- and right-clickers work quickly and accurately.
The battery capacity for the Surface Laptop 4 is 47.4Wh. A full day can be easily achieved on the Surface Laptop 4 with its extended battery life of 1.5 hours, adding to the solid runtimes of its predecessor. However, during the continuous browsing on Wi-Fi at 150 nits for 10 hours and 46 minutes, the laptop shut down.
There are fewer ports on the 13-inch model, which is more understandable, but this still doesn’t look great for the Surface Laptop 4. A USB 3.1 Type-A port and a USB 3.1 Type-C input are located on the laptop’s left side. Thunderbolt is not supported over Type-C. It includes a Surface Connect port that serves both as a charging and docking input on the right.
