Description

MSI is one of the prominent players when it comes to high-end gaming machines. Be it laptop, or desktop, MSI has launched some of the best gaming machines. One such machine is the MSI GF75. This is an affordable 17-inch gaming laptop that comes for around $800 and comes with some impressive specifications.

Design and Display

Starting from the design and build of the laptop. There is an Aluminium base and lid of the laptop and the rest of the body is constructed with high-quality plastic. The laptop feels pretty sturdy and solid overall. The laptop looks quite thin and light considering it to be a gaming laptop. The hinge of the laptop is smooth and also provides a lift to the base for better airflow. It weighs 4.85 pounds and its dimensions are 10.24-inches by 0.90-inches by 15.63-inches.

Coming to the display, MSI has gone with a huge 17.3-inches display with a matte finish and Full HD resolution. The panel used in the laptop is an IPS panel from Optronics that works decently in terms of display quality. The display cover 58% of sRGB color space can be called decent in color reproduction as well.

Performance

Coming to performance, the laptop comes packed with a 10th gen Intel Core i5-10300H processor. It is a 14nm Comet Lake processor from Intel and comes with 4 cores and 8 processing threads for a nice multi-threaded performance. The processor has a base clock speed of 2.5GHz and can be boosted up to 4.5GHz. For gaming, the laptop has a dedicated GPU to handle intensive gaming sessions. There is the Nvidia GeForce GTX 1650 GPU with 4GB of gddr6 video memory with 12Gbps of transfer speed and clock speed of 1.59GHz.

Talking about the RAM capacity, the MSI GF75 comes with 8GB of RAM that has been clocked up to 2666MHz and works pretty fast. To company the RAM, there is a combination storage solution provided by MSI in the laptop. There is 128GB of SSD storage along with 1TB of HDD storage for those who need extra storage.

Keyboard and Touchpad

Juping on the keyboard of the laptop, there is a full-sized (with num pad) keyboard that comes illuminated with a red backlight. The keyboard is very nicely built and is also consistent in typing experience as the rest of the MSI laptops in this series. The keyboard is well-built with nice typing feedback making it comfortable to type on.

The trackpad of the laptop measures approx. 10.5 by 6.6cm which can be called a decent-sized trackpad. The trackpad works smoothly and is quite responsive as well. The trackpad also has embedded mouse keys to perform right and left clicks.

Battery Backup

The battery backup of the laptop is just fine and is matching the standards of being an $800 gaming laptop. The laptop comes with a 3-cell 51Whr battery capacity which is decent. One can easily expect battery backup of 3-4 hours on a single charge.

Ports & Connectivity

The port selection of the laptop is very nice. It comes with a load of ports to provide heavy physical connectivity. The laptop consists of a set of 3.5mm audio and microphone jack, three USB 3.2 Gen 1 Type-A ports, one USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type-C port, an Ethernet port, an HDMI 1.4 port, and an AC power jack.
